Upgrading

How to update your self-hosted Sentro instance to the latest version.

Docker Compose

1. Back up your database

cd ~/sentro
docker exec sentro-postgres pg_dump -U sentro sentro > backup-$(date +%Y%m%d).sql

2. Pull new images

docker compose pull

3. Recreate services

docker compose up -d --force-recreate

The one-off migration step runs first and applies any pending schema changes before the new containers start serving.

4. Verify

# Check all services are running
docker compose ps

# Check logs for errors
docker compose logs --tail=50

Pin to a specific version

To avoid unexpected changes, pin the image tag in your .env:

SENTRO_IMAGE_TAG=v1.2.0

Then pull and restart:

docker compose pull
docker compose up -d

Kubernetes (Helm)

1. Back up your database

kubectl exec -n sentro deploy/sentro-postgresql -- \
pg_dump -U sentro sentro > backup-$(date +%Y%m%d).sql

2. Update the chart

helm upgrade sentro ./helm/sentro \
--namespace sentro \
--reuse-values \
--set global.image.tag=v1.2.0 \
--wait --timeout 10m

Helm will:

  1. Update all deployment images
  2. Run the migration job (post-upgrade hook)
  3. Rolling-restart all pods

3. Verify

kubectl get pods -n sentro
kubectl rollout status deployment -n sentro

Version Compatibility

Database migrations are forward-compatible. Each release includes migrations that upgrade the schema automatically.

warning

Downgrading is not supported. Database migrations are not reversible. Always back up before upgrading so you can restore if needed.
