Data Retention
Sentro automatically manages the lifecycle of your monitoring data based on your plan's retention window.
Retention periods
| Plan | Retention | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 7 days | Check history, daily stats, and logs older than 7 days are deleted |
| Starter | 30 days | Data retained for 30 days |
| Pro | 90 days | Data retained for 90 days |
| Max | 365 days | Data retained for 1 year |
What data is subject to retention
The following data types are cleaned up based on your plan's retention window:
| Data type | Description |
|---|---|
| Check results | Individual HTTP/TCP/DNS/ICMP check results (status, latency, errors) |
| Daily statistics | Aggregated daily uptime and latency statistics per monitor |
| Heartbeat pings | Incoming heartbeat/cron job pings |
| Alert history | Records of dispatched alert notifications |
| Webhook deliveries | Outgoing webhook delivery logs |
| API request logs | Logs of API key usage |
Data NOT subject to retention
The following data is retained for the lifetime of your account:
- Incidents — Outage records and incident updates (for historical reference)
- Monitor configuration — Your monitors, alert rules, channels, and settings
- Audit logs — User activity logs (for security compliance)
- Billing history — Invoices and payment records
Cleanup schedule
Data retention cleanup runs daily at 3:00 AM UTC. The process:
- 1:00 AM UTC — Retention warning notifications are sent (if applicable)
- 2:00 AM UTC — Daily statistics are aggregated from raw check data
- 3:00 AM UTC — Data older than the retention window is permanently deleted
After cleanup, a summary email is sent to opted-in recipients listing what was removed.
Notifications
Before deletion
Sentro sends advance warning emails at 30, 14, 7, 3, and 1 day(s) before your oldest data reaches the retention cutoff. These emails include:
- How many days until deletion
- The date of your oldest data
- Approximate number of records affected
- A link to upgrade your plan for longer retention
- A link to export your data before it's deleted
After deletion
A daily cleanup summary email is sent after the retention job runs, listing the number of records removed per category.
Managing notifications
You can configure who receives retention notifications from Settings → Notifications in the dashboard. Each recipient can opt into or out of Data Retention notifications independently.
Every retention email includes a one-click Unsubscribe link.
Data export
Before data is deleted, you can export it:
- Dashboard — Go to any monitor's detail page and click Export CSV to download check history
- Full export — Go to Settings → Danger Zone → Export Data for a complete JSON export
- API — Use
POST /v1/exportto request an asynchronous export delivered to your email
The dashboard CSV export supports up to 365 days of history (limited by your plan's retention).
Plan changes and retention
Upgrading
When you upgrade to a plan with longer retention, your existing data is preserved — the new retention window applies immediately.
Downgrading
When you downgrade to a plan with shorter retention:
- You receive a warning email about the reduced retention window
- Data older than the new retention limit will be deleted in the next daily cleanup cycle
- We recommend exporting your data before downgrading
Self-hosted retention
Self-hosted editions have the following retention limits:
| Edition | Retention |
|---|---|
| Community | 90 days |
| Team | 365 days |
| Max | 730 days (2 years) |
| Enterprise | 730 days (2 years) |
Self-hosted users can configure a custom retention period up to their edition's maximum by setting DATA_RETENTION_DAYS in the environment.
